Welcome to CTS Partnership Development Grant Writing Retreat!
This retreat is a creative, relaxed and supportive space to think together critical tourism studies. We will combine the writing and sharing of ideas, time to contemplate and just be in the spiritual space of the Monastery of Cura, and some group experiences that we hope will be inspirational and playful. The focus of the retreat is around the development of an edited book on tourism in multidisciplinary perspective to be published by Edward Elgar.
The registration covers:
- Accommodation for all days at the bed and breakfast of the monastery.
- Dinner on the 22nd
- Breakfast, lunch, dinner on the 23, 24 and 25th
- Breakfast on the 26th
An excursion on the 24th. We are still planning this, we would like to have a combination of showing you some heritage and then swim and experience one the beautiful beaches of the island.
The Monastery has a cafeteria/restaurant and it is possible to order snacks, food and hot/cold drinks during the day.
Donations:
If you have some academic funds and would like to support the retreat with a donation, this will be much appreciated. The funds will be used to support this retreat financially so that our grant money can be used for further activities and scholarships in the near future. For donations, please write to Veronica Lillo at uibcongres@fueib.org
Transportation to venue from airport:
You will have to take a taxi drive of 35-40 minutes from the airport to the Monastery (the cost of this can be aprox 35-40 euros and taxis accept credit cards). There are always taxis available from arrivals at the airport. If many of you arrive at a similar time we will try to arrange for a collective shuttle service.
On the 26th, we will arrange transportation either to Palma for those of you that want to stay one more night in Mallorca, or to the airport, for those of you that are leaving for CTS9 Menorca already on the 26th.
A few practical things to remember:
Mallorca’s weather is warm at the end of June with a maximum average of 28 °C going down to 15 °C during the evening. Cura is located at the top of a mountain (543 meters altitude) and it can get chilly in the evening. Remember to bring a sweater, a sun cap/hat and a fan. And something against the mosquitoes, which are quite active in the early mornings and evenings of the summer months.
It is possible to relax in the garden or the nearby surroundings, or for those of you that like to go for walks, there are two other spiritual and religious heritage sites in the mountain (Gracia and Sant Honorat) at an easy walking distance, and further down, the little village of Randa which is 4.5 km from the Monastery. Most of these walks are on a narrow paved road and you would not need hiking shoes. On the 24rd we will go for an excursion and most surely there will be a possibility for swimming for those of you that would like to try that.
